Introducing the New XBLOG Coordinator: Greetings!

Hi there,

My name is Edison Osorio. Starting today, I will be coordinating the XBLOG. That just means that I will be inviting you to follow our publications, and  blog about the arts community, including events, reviews, and whatever matters our bloggers think have the potential to cultivate public dialogue in Toronto. For my part, I will be contributing my own experiences, and those experiences will be particularly based on your interests as a departing point for dialogue. Just as a reminder for all our users: what we decide to blog about, is as important as the people who inspire us to blog, who make events happen, including artists, scholars, directors, curators, assistants, community leaders, and just anyone who is involved in any mission to make Toronto more arts/culture-friendly, so please be supportive and make their efforts matter even more by following up  our blog.

My Profile

I’m in 3rd year of Criticism and Curatorial Practice at OCAD University. I see this part of my life leading towards a goal that is specifically based on community-oriented work. Before I started to go to OCAD, I went to Sheridan College for Art Fundamentals, and the following year I attended Fanshawe College where my Liberal Studies emphasized in Art History. That combination of liberal studies and studio work drove me to enrol in an academic program that would allow me to do writing, as well as to practice my  abilities to create works of art. Hence, since I joined OCAD, I have been trying to pursue two distinct goals that go hand in hand: developing a body of knowledge to can help me become an active member of society who contributes individual improvement for the needed, specially through education and communications; but at the same time, in my own artwork, I usually attempt  to convey messages about the human condition, through the exploration of the senses and feelings. In this attempt, my main concern is to bridge the gap  between the depiction and perception of those two.

One more time, you are very welcome to make suggestions about topics that should get more exposure on the blog, and just try to contribute your articulated thoughts. I’m looking forward to generate an attractive conversation for the community to join in and benefit by learning about  and exploring the cultural changes that are happening around Toronto.

Thanks,

Edison
